700 tonnes of bespoke concrete units from Forterra form a major part of the UK’s newest railway station, at Ilkeston in Derbyshire.
Ilkeston Railway Station, which officially opened in April 2017 and is the first railway station to operate in the town for more than half a century, will reduce commuter journeys to nearby cities and is expected to boost the town’s economy, serving up to a quarter of a million passengers a year.
Forterra’s concrete specialists, based at our facility in Somercotes, designed, manufactured and supplied all 230 concrete units that make up the 100 metre platforms of the station.
The platform units were installed by construction specialists Galliford Try, whose teams worked days and nights to ensure the units were installed safely and to schedule.
Forterra provides comprehensive engineered solutions for all precast concrete needs, including flooring, culverts, retaining walls, and bridge deck systems. We offer design and technical support to ensure quality and value to our customers.
